Chapter 3

Do You Love Your Neighbors?

Anita and I have traveled extensively to many resorts here and abroad. We have stayed in nice hotels, bed and breakfasts; company managed property rentals and private homes. We have had good and bad experiences along the way but have always had great vacations when we stayed in a private home. There is something very comforting about staying in a private, resort home. While it can never really be the same as your actual home, it does make a tremendous difference in how you experience your vacation environment. But all vacation homes are not alike. Privacy and proximity often times clash.

There are many contemporary type homes that have crowded the resort landscape. Many of them are quite attractive in a "city" kind of way. We purposely chose a more private type of home, because we wanted to leave the "city" behind. We love our neighbors back home, but we don't want to share our vacation with them. More importantly, we don't want them to share their vacation with us.

Because Breckenridge is such a beautiful resort and appeals to young and old, skiers and non skiers alike, everyone has their own idea of what their vacation should be like. When we were looking for our vacation home, Anita and I had nightmares about having a romantic evening at our new home, only to be greeted by Bubba and the boys loudly enjoying their vacation right next door. "Hind sight is 20/20!! When we bought Forest Haus back in 1988, the resort was just really starting to become popular. It has now exploded with homes, townhomes, condos and hotels built on top of each other!

It's nice having neighbors that are more than an acre away! It's nice knowing that every time we go to enjoy our vacation home, it will always deliver a peaceful and private "Breckenridge Escape" for our family and friends.
